Beginner/Intermediate Level 16.5″ W x 5.5″ H 39 pieces.
Chameleon resting on a branch. I received a challenge from Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts magazine to make a Intarsia piece from dyed birch veneer laminate (plywood). The piece they sent me was layered red and a dark grayish blue. They suggested an apple, something red. I decided it was so colorful a chameleon would be perfect, it looks like it's trying to blend in with tie-dye.
The upper Chameleon was made out of the Premier Camo.
Woods Used: 3/4" Dyed Birch Veneer Laminate and 3/4" Baltic Birch for the chameleon, 3/4" walnut for the branch. 3/16" Walnut dowel for the eye.
The company has many color options, the color I used on this project is "Apple Jack". Their website is https://www.cwp-usa.com/ I would have chosen either the Premier Camo or the Red Rider. As you sand the surface the layers of the plywood are exposed, it really follows the contour of the piece.
A good source for 3/4" Baltic Birch is http://ocoochhardwoods.com/plywood.php
Suggested Blades: Plywood is very abrasive, I used around 8 Platinum Plus #5, blades to cut 5 parts to keep the cuts square. I used PLP-2/0, or TLB #2/0 to cut the interior lines.
