The Soft Drum Sanding System is the best system for sanding Intarsia pieces any other project that needs a smooth rounded surface. Just slide the pad onto the arbor and the ribs on the arbor keep it in place. You can sand past the ends without the fear of marking the work piece. Having the soft sides on the sander makes it great for sanding dips, folds, and grooves on your projects.

The Flex Drum Sander is a sanding system was developed by Seyco (best scrolls saws around) as it was needed to shape Intarsia pieces at a reasonable cost. The parts are all made in the USA. The Mandrel is machined from solid aluminum and will fit any 8” Slow Speed or Variable Speed Bench Grinder with a 5/8” shaft motor, it will fit a 6" variable speed bench grinder with a  ½" motor shaft with the included adapter sleeve.  If you purchase the Adapter Shaft it will fit any Drill style Chuck such as in a drill press or a lathe.

To improve the life of the pad try the following tips:
Keep moving the wood you are sanding across the entire surface of the pad.  Keeping the wood in one area and pressing hard can cause the foam to shrink.
The pad may be a tight fit onto the shaft, if you have a problem LIGHTLY coat the inside of the pad on the end with liquid soap.
• Take the pad off the arbor after use to let the foam relax, this will help keep the sleeve tighter on the pad.
If the sleeve becomes loose you can use a little glue to hold the sleeve.

Adapter Shaft

Adapter Shaft if mounting to a drill press. This option is good for a temporary set up to use the sander. The sander works much better running horizontal mounted to a 1725rpm grinder or a variable speed bench grinder (run at the slowest speed).
