#LP-9 Turkey Point Lighthouse

Intermediate/Advanced Level (small details)  12 1/2"  x  10 1/2"   203 pieces plus frame

"Turkey Point Lighthouse" is the Ninth Release in our "Lost Patterns" Series.

Lighthouses are another favorite subject of Judy Gale Roberts' and this custom designed lighthouse pattern is truly among the most beautiful and historical.

Turkey Point Lighthouse was built in 1833 and is the southern most lighthouse in Maryland. It is located in Elk Neck State Park on a 100-foot bluff overlooking the Elk River and Chesapeake Bay. The 35-foot tower is the only remaining original structure. The Keeper's quarters were torn down in 1972.

Thank YOU, Darren Laupp of Columbia, Missouri! We owe you a debt of gratitude for the beautiful job you did creating a magnificent lighthouse scene with great detail. As a former Judy Gale Roberts' student, we knew you could bring perfection to a piece she dearly loved. We were very pleased that you accepted the challenge and even the challenge to bring it all together in an 11 x 14-inch frame with the small difficult details.

Darren feels that anyone with Intermediate skills could enlarge the pattern slightly and the pieces would not present such a challenge.

Woods Used: Darren used Western Red Cedar, Poplar (dowel rod, rainbow, thermally treated), Peruvian Walnut, Alder, Basswood, Box Elder, Mahogany, Locust, Spalted  Tamarind and Red Heart.

Darren's Blade Choices were the Platinum Plus, PLP-3 and the Platinum Plus, PLP-2/0.

When cutting the small "micro intarsia pieces", a zero-clearance blade insert was put on the scroll saw table.

Tacky Glue was used to attach the pieces to the backer and the lighthouse was finished with three coats of Old Masters clear satin gel polyurethane.

Intarsia pattern designed by Judy Gale Roberts.
See why our patterns are the best!
