Beginner/Intermediate 4″ wide x 5" high 35 pieces
"Squirrel" peeking out of a tree knot hole. Woodland Ornament series.
I used the following 3/4” & 1/2" thick wood for this project;
Squirrel - 3/4" various shades of Western Red Cedar, Walnut for the eyes.
3/4" Ambrosia Maple for the sides of the opening.
I used 1/2" thick Western Red Cedar for the tree portion on the front and the back of the ornament. I used the WRC because it is light weight.
A Wonder Wheel or use a 6" diameter wire brush for adding texture. I attached the wire brush to my bench grinder, be sure to wear eye protection.
Suggested Blades: Gold #5 for Western Red Cedar, Pine, or any softwood. Platinum Plus #3, Platinum #5, TLB #5 for the Aspen and Basswood. PLP #2/0, or TLB #2/0 to cut the interior lines (after the exterior lines are cut).
The two sides are glued on top of the back section, then the sides are sanded to make an oval shaped ornament.
All of the parts are glued on top of the back section.
You will not need a backing for this project.
6" wire brush attached to the bench grinder to add a rough texture to the exterior.
Handscrew clamp modified (cut notch) to hold the dowels for drilling.
