Beginner/Intermediate Level   4″ wide x 5" high   37 pieces
Saw-whet owl peeking out of a tree knot hole. Woodland Ornament series.
I used the following  3/4” thick wood for this project;

Spalted Hackberry for the "LT", Spalted Maple for the "ML", "M", & "MD", Peruvian Walnut for the "D" eyelids.
I used 1/2" thick Western Red Cedar for the tree portion on the front and the back of the ornament. I used the WRC because it is light weight.
1/2" Maple and 5/16" Walnut dowels for the eyes. I used a modified hand screw clamp to drill the dowels.
Wonder Wheel  and a 6" diameter wire brush was used for adding texture. I attached the wire brush to my bench grinder, be sure to wear eye protection.
Suggested Blades:  Gold #5 for Western Red Cedar, Pine, or any softwood. Platinum Plus #3,  Platinum #5,  TLB #5  for the Aspen and Basswood.  PLP #2/0, or TLB #2/0 to cut the interior lines (after the exterior lines are cut).
