Beginner/Intermediate Level 4″ wide x 5" high 30 pieces
I used 1/2" thick Western Red Cedar for the tree portion on the front and the back of the ornament. Woodland Ornament series. I used the WRC because it is light weight. 3/8" Walnut dowels for the eyes. A Wonder Wheel and a 6" diameter wire brush was used for adding texture. I attached the wire brush to my bench grinder, be sure to wear eye protection.
Suggested Blades: Gold #5 for Western Red Cedar, Pine, or any softwood. Platinum Plus #3, Platinum #5, TLB #5 for the Aspen and Basswood. PLP #2/0, or TLB #2/0 to cut the interior lines (after the exterior lines are cut).
Click to check out the rest of the "Woodland Ornaments.
6" wire brush attached to the bench grinder to add a rough texture to the exterior.
Handscrew clamp modified (cut notch) to hold the dowels for drilling.
The two sides are glued on top of the back section, then the sides are sanded to make an oval shaped ornament.
All of the parts are glued on top of the back section.
You will not need a backing for this project.
